Shanghai Volkswagen achieves record sales in China
Volkswagen was one of the first international car makers to venture into
China. Their contracts go back to the year 1978, when the Chinese government
introduced its policy of economic reform and a more open approach to its
relationships with foreign enterprise. The aim was to use capital and
technology from abroad to accelerate industrialisation in the country

US $ 2.7 billion in 2006, Greater China is Dow’s third largest market
in the world behind the United States and Germany. Headquartered in Shanghai,
Dow Greater China maintains 5 business offices and 10 manufacturing sites.
A state-of-the-art R&D centre and a global information technology
(IT) service centre are planned to be completed in the third quarter 2008.
Both of which will be housed in a new Dow Center in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech

An automotive components manufacturer from Germany
is enjoying growth in the Chinese market
The history of Mann+Hummel in China began in 1996 with the opening of
a Sales Office in Shanghai. Following on from the success of an initial
joint venture in 2002 came the establishment of two further companies,
and the construction of a new plant by 2009 is being planned. Polymotive
met the new Managing Director of Mann+Hummel Group China, Patrick J.R.
Cudmore, together with the Senior Manager Filter Trading, Miloslav Smolka,
and talked with them about the opportunities offered by the Chinese market
to an automotive OEM and component producer as well as about the challenges.
